BC Hydro customers in North Peace still without power

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — As of 4 p.m. on Tuesday, 2,800 BC Hydro customers are without power in the Fort St. John and the surrounding area.

20 additional crews are arriving into Fort St. John today and tomorrow to help put the power back on.

Spokesperson Bob Gammer said the bulk of the homes without power are north of the city, as they rely on power from the Fox Creek Substation. The outages are in communities such as Prespatou, Milligan Creek, and Montney.

Unfortunately, a fire near the Beatton Airport Road burnt through 16 transmissions structures, and crews have been trying to restore power since.

“We’re hoping to see some of those customers back on by this evening,” Gammer said.

There are difficulties that are complicating efforts to restore power, though, including wind and fire.
