Site C hunger striker taken to hospital in Vancouver
VANCOUVER, B.C. — After reportedly having not eaten for 19 days, hunger striker Kristin Henry was taken to St. Paul’s hospital in Vancouver on Thursday.
According to a Facebook post from the group of protesters, her heart rate had dropped to ‘concerning levels.’
Henry told reporters last month, when the hunger strike started, that she intended to eat no food until the Site C project was dissolved.
Protesters have been camping outside of BC Hydro’s downtown Vancouver office, since the BC Supreme Court granted an injunction against protesters at the Rocky Mountain Fort on the south bank of the Peace River.
The protesters starting sending letters to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau last week, appealing to him to stop Site C to amend Canada’s relationship with First Nations peoples.
BC Hydro spokesperson Dave Conway has said the province’s power utility respects the right of individuals to peacefully protest and express their opinions about the project in a safe and lawful manner.
