City turns down request from FSJ Minor Hockey for ice surface donation
FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The City of Fort St. John has turned down a request from the Fort St. John Minor Hockey/Ross H MacLean Pee Wee Flyers, asking that the City donate the ice surface rentals at the North Peace Arena, to support the BC Hockey Pee Wee Tier 2 Championships in Marchas.
According to a document attached to the administrative report presented to Council on Monday, the cost for the Minor Hockey team to rent out the North Peace Arena is $3,465 for the five days.
The City says, since the youth recreation fees and charges already provide a 75 per cent subsidy of the regular rate, the request was regretfully declined.
According to the administrative report, Council has previously declined a number of similar requests on the basis of the subsidized minor rate provided.
These include the 2013 FSJ Flyers Savage Cup, 2014 Elks Speed Skating Club Canada Cup #1 Long Track, 2014 Clearview Bantam Female Hockey Championships and 2014 FSJ Figure Skating Club Future Stars Camp.
This tournament, running from Mar. 12 to 17, consists of between up to 10 hockey teams from all over the Province coming to the City.
