Flyers easily handle Regals 6-2

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – Saturday night’s result between the Fort St. John Flyers and High Prairie Regals came as a surprise to no one. The season has been a struggle for the Regals as they are still looking for their first win of the year after falling 6-2 to the Flyers and being outshot in the game 61-15.

High Prairie did find the back of the net first in the contest on the power play but the Flyers scored three unanswered to close out the frame as they held a 23-5 edge in the shots.

The second period was relatively quiet as the clubs exchanged goals but the Flyers again had a big advantage in the shot column at 20-5.

The Flyers pulled away in the third with two short handed goals to round out the scoring.

Head coach Andrew Leriger was quick to give props to Regals goalie Sandford Lamouche as he made 56 saves in the game, and was also satisfied with his squad’s ability to play a sound game under tough circumstances.

“He’s a pretty good goalie. We knew what to expect tonight. We went down there already and did the same performance where we had 58 shots on him and he was stellar. What worries me is when you play teams like High Prairie you get into bad habits not executing what we work on. The guys were pretty good about that tonight,” he said.

Scoring for the Flyers were Robbie Sidhu, Jeremy Bent, Josh Bostock, Rick Cleaver, and Ryan Carter (2).

The Flyers have three games left on their regular season schedule. They have a lengthy break as their next game is January 21 in Dawson Creek.
