School Board Chair election postponed to the new year
FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Last night, during their last public board meeting before the holiday break, the School District 60 Board of Trustees was set to elect a new Chairperson last and appoint trustees to various other roles.
However, that election was pushed back to January as two trustees, Darrell Pasichnyk and Candace Dow, did not attend the meeting.
Current Chair of the board, Jaret Thompson, said he hasn’t seen the election postponed in his seven years on the School Board, but this has happened before. SD 60’s Board Vice-Chair Ida Campbell said the board has postponed elections before, but for other reasons.
This election will see the appointment of a new Board Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, Provincial Councillor, Alternate Provincial Councillor, BCPSEA Rep, and Alternate BCPSEA Rep. Trustees take these roles for an annual term, with the election typically happening at the end of the calendar year.
As last night’s meeting was the last one before schools take a holiday break, the School Board does not meet again for a formal public board meeting until Jan. 25, 2016.
