Northern Lights College receives $300,000 grant for Dawson Creek Campus
Northern Lights College hosted a ceremony this morning in their Energy House to recognize the $300,000 donation from Encana Corporation towards a new proposed trades training centre – which will be located on the Dawson Creek Campus (subject to all appropriate approvals.)
“This donation illustrates just how committed our valued industry partners like Encana Corporation are to the process of building strong futures in the North,” said NLC president and CEO Dr. Bryn Kulmatycki in a press release.
“It is because of donations like these that our Trades and Apprenticeships programs continue to produce highly trained workers that are among the best Canada has to offer.”
Trades and Apprenticeships programming on the Dawson Creek Campus is delivered in several smaller buildings that were built in the 50’s, so the College is proposing to build a trades training centre to create a consolidated learning space that ‘will foster collaboration across program areas.’
The shared teaching-learning environment is aimed to improve access for students, and allow for the delivery of current teaching methodologies, technologies and the installation of new equipment.
Encana Corporation says they are a longtime supporter of NLC, having donated over $3.9 million to the school.
“This strategic investment reflects the importance of skilled trades for our company and industry,” says Jim Roberts, Encana’s vice-president for Northern Operations. Roberts says the proposed new skilled trades training facility will ‘play a crucial role in building local capacity in northeastern BC for these in-demand careers.’
The NLC Foundation awarded more than $500,000 to students in the 2014-15 academic year.
