PRRD supports mental health association seeking peer support expansion

DAWSON CREEK, B.C -The Peace River Regional District supports the Canadian Mental Health Association’s grant application for the Peer Support Expansion for Northern BC project.

Chair Brad Sperling penned a letter supporting the CMNHA’s Northern Development Initiative Trust application on March 17th, which is for up to $100,000.

In the CMHA’s letter requesting support on February 28th, executive director Maureen Davis says the project would support peer support services specific to mental health and addictions in the north.

“Issues related to mental health and addictions have continued to grow with COVID-19, global issues and will be impacted by rapid and large scale economic development. Unfortunately, the ability to have sufficient community resources continues to be limited,” reads Davis’ letter.

She adds peer support is proven to assist with early intervention and post-treatment supports, among others.

The organization will provide certified training, ensure participants complete RCMP clearance checks, and facilitate virtual supervision and support services.
