Canadian women’s hockey team to face Finland in world championship semifinal
MALMO, Sweden — Canada will face Finland in Friday’s semifinal at the women’s world hockey championship.
Finland downed Switzerland 3-0 in Wednesday’s quarter-final.
Michelle Karvinen and Linda Valimaki scored for the Finns with Rosa Lindstedt adding an empty-net goal. Meeri Raisinen stopped 15 shots for the shutout.
Canada beat Finland 6-2 to conclude the preliminary round with a 2-1 record.
The United States went 3-0 in the preliminary round to also secure a semifinal berth. The defending champions await the winner of a later quarter-final between host Sweden and Russia.
The semifinal winners advance to Saturday’s championship game.
