The Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of B.C. will be holding events geared towards children and families, with Fort St. John’s Dr. Kearney Middle School, hosting its annual Popsicle stick bridge building competition as part of the celebration.

A variety of guidelines must be followed by participants, such as the constructed bridges must include a maximum of 100 Popsicle sticks, and must be able to support a hot wheels sized car, just to name a couple.

The bridge building competition will take place Saturday, March 9, with construction taking place from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. or until the final bridge is tested.

Three separate categories will be involved in the contest: Junior, including grades 3-5, Senior, comprised of grades 6 and over and Open, for everyone ranging from teachers, parents or students.

Cash prizes will also be available for the winners; however no prize money will be awarded in the Open category.

A similar event will be taking place at Tumbler Ridge Elementary School, Friday, April 5.
