Restaurants saving energy with candlelight

The local establishments are taking part in the event hoping to raise awareness of energy conservation.

Lisa Coltart, B.C. Hydro’s Executive Director of Power Smart and Customer Care says the campaign shows residents how easy it is to start living a more green-friendly lifestyle.

"The annual Candlelight Conservation Dinner for Power Smart Month is my favourite event to show how easy it is to be smart with power. Making simple behaviours, like turning off your lights when not in use, a habit that can add up to significant energy savings for your home, community and the province.

This year, the three restaurants involved will be Mr. Mikes, Roustabout’s and Egan's Irish Pub & Restaurant, where exclusive discounts and specials will be offered for one night only, including free appetizers to two-for-one dinner specials.

Minister of Energy and Mines Rich Coleman says campaigns such as this are very beneficial in the fight to conserve energy.

"The Candlelight Conservation Dinner gives British Columbians an opportunity to see how simple it is to make small changes, like turning down the lights, to conserve power. Since 2008 B.C. Hydro has saved 3,400 gigawatt hours a year in electricity through conservation-enough to power 309,000 B.C. Homes."

Every October, B.C. Hydro makes it a priority to show residents of the province how easy it is to live a more energy-conservative lifestyle, and how smart choices can not only save energy, but money as well.
