Next week is National Immunization Awareness Week in Fort St. John

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

"In the last fifty years immunization has saved more lives than any health intervention," according to a Northern Health public health nurse, "and during this week we'd like to celebrate this wonderful public health achievement."

The week focuses on both decreasing vaccine-preventable diseases in Canada like meningitis, measles and polio, as well as threats posed by infectious diseases, like the H1N1 virus.

There's also good news for needle phobes (like Moose FM/energeticcity-beta.mystagingwebsite.com reporter Erica Fisher!): some vaccines are now available in oral form.
