B.C. Hydro looking for input on proposed dam

Consultation will include topics such as Highway 29 preferred realignment, outdoor recreation, worker accommodation and workplace planning, as well as 85th Ave. industrial lands.

As part of the Site C Clean Energy Project, B.C. Hydro is inviting local communities, stakeholders and the general public to participate in the upcoming Project Definition Consultation, scheduled to take place around the province from April 10 until May 31, 2012.   

According to B.C. Hydro, public and stakeholder input gathered during these consultation sessions will help in forming the planning process, project definition and plans for mitigation of potential project impacts. All of this information is important as B.C. Hydro prepares the Environmental Impact Statement for review in the environment assessment process.

Residents of Fort St. John are invited to attend one of two stakeholder meetings to provide input. The two meetings will take place Monday, April 16, from 4-6 p.m., or Tuesday, April 17, from 9-11 a.m. Both meetings will be held at the Quality Inn Northern Grand Hotel.

Organizers of the event are requesting that those interested in attending please confirm prior to the consolation. Confirmations can be sent to sitec@bchydro.com, or by calling 1-877-217-0777. RSVP’s should include the attendees first and last name, meeting date and time, as well as contact information (phone and/or email).

If interested in learning more about the Site C project, there is a variety of ways to do so before attending a public input consultation. Online discussion guides will be available on B.C. Hydro’s official website as of April. 10, 2012, questions can also be submitted to sitec@bchydro.com, by calling toll-free 1-877-217-0007 or by visiting the Community Consultation Offices, located in Fort St. John at 9948, 100th Ave.

Those interested in learning more can also attend an open house information session, which will be held in Fort St. John Tuesday, April 17, from 6-9 p.m. at the Pomeroy Hotel.   

Site C is a proposed third dam and hydroelectric generating station on the Peace River in Northeast B.C. It is being proposed as part of B.C. Hydro’s overall regeneration program, investing in new as well as renewing B.C.’s electricity system.
