Fort St. John’s city hall has declared the Enerplex developer’s latest solution to the speedskating padding issue "inadequate."

The city has been locked in negotiation with design/build firm Field, Field and Field for the last several months over the issue of safety padding around the speedskating oval.

A deadline of September 20th was set for the firm to present a viable solution. The firm presented a plan by that deadline, but it was rejected by the city.

Director of Facilities Jim Rogers now says the city will exercise its option in the contract to involve itself in the design process at Field, Field and Field’s expense.

However, Rogers is calling the move a "positive step" for the Enerplex, saying it will help move the project forward.
