Man charged with murder, indignity to remains in 2025 Vancouver Island homicide

NANAIMO — A man has been charged with second-degree murder and indignity to human remains in the death of a 65-year-old woman on Vancouver Island.

Nanaimo RCMP say Cameron Compton was arrested Monday after a months-long investigation.

The investigation began in late 2025 after police received a report that Sherry Shelley was missing.

Her body was found after a vehicle fire, triggering the homicide investigation.

Police have not released additional details surrounding the case.

The accused is in police custody and scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
