FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The province’s Independent Investigations Office (IIO) is asking for public witnesses after a motor vehicle incident involving the Fort St. John RCMP in which a man suffered injuries.

The IIO of B.C. is an independent civilian oversight agency which investigates incidents involving police that might have resulted in serious injury or a fatality, regardless of allegations or wrongdoing.

According to a release by the IIO, units from the Fort St. John RCMP detachment had located an individual who was driving a vehicle “suspected of committing multiple offences” shortly before 11:30 a.m. on Friday, June 12th, in Fort St. John.

The statement says the individual had “avoided police attempts” to arrest him earlier in the day.

Officers then used unmarked law enforcement vehicles to conduct a tactical arrest, resulting in a three-vehicle incident at the intersection of 112th Street and the Alaska Highway on Friday afternoon, June 12th.

The man was then taken to the hospital for treatment, with no current update on his condition.
