FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Below are the latest sentences handed down from the Fort St. John, Dawson Creek and Fort Nelson provincial courts between May 25th and May 29th.
Fort St. John Provincial Court sentencing, May 25th
Ralph Junior Achla (born 1982)
Achla was found guilty of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm on February 20th, 2024, in Halfway River.
They were sentenced to three days in jail.
Achla was also found guilty of operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration of more than 80 on November 9th, 2024, in Halfway River.
They were fined $2,000 and issued a 12-month driving prohibition.

Ricky Douglas Hart (born 1956)
Hart was found guilty of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm on January 8th, 2025, in Fort St. John.
They were sentenced to “jail time served”, meaning the time Hart served in jail awaiting sentencing was counted towards his sentence. A DNA order was made, and Hart was ordered to report for sample collection.
Hart was also given a probation order for 12 months and a firearms prohibition for 10 years.
Tanner Jordan Nyhus (born 1992)
Reasonable grounds were satisfied for Nyhus for an incident on August 21st, 2025, in Fort St. John.
Nyhus was issued a $500 recognizance after the allegation for an incident for a period of 12 months. If Nyhus fails to comply with the court’s conditions, they must pay $500.
Kody Lennard Paul (born 1997)
Paul was found guilty of breaching a release order on August 209th, 2025, in Tumbler Ridge.
They were sentenced to jail time served and must pay a $100 victim surcharge, which helps crime victims.
Dawson Creek Provincial Court sentencing, May 26th
John William Junior Ominayak (born 1983)
Ominayak was found guilty on two counts of breaching a probation order on November 18th, 2025, and February 11th, 2026, in Dawson Creek.
They were sentenced to jail for a day and jail time served. Ominayak was also subjected to forfeiture, which allows the government to seize property or assets ‘tained’ by crime.
Fort Nelson Provincial Court sentencing, May 26th
Jeremy Logan Hay (born 1996)
Hay was found guilty of driving without a driver’s licence on November 3rd, 2025, in Fort Nelson.
They were fined $250, and must pay a $38 victim surcharge.
Fort St. John Provincial Court sentencing, May 27th
Tina Apsassin (born 1984)
Apsassin was found guilty of driving while prohibited or with a suspended licence on January 25, 2026, in Fort St. John.
They were fined $500, handed a one-year driving prohibition, and must pay a $75 victim surcharge.
Dylan Blair Skerik (born 2004)
Skerik was found guilty of breaching a probation order and wilfully resisting or obstructing a peace officer on March 20th, 2026, in Fort St. John.
They were sentenced to jail time served and were subject to forfeiture.
Fort St. John Provincial Court sentencing, May 28th
Maurice Joseph Lucas (born 1965)
Lucas was found guilty of entering an enclosed land on September 21st, 2024, in Taylor.
They were fined $1 and must pay a $0.15 victim surcharge. They were also handed a 12-month probation order.
Dawson Creek Provincial Court sentencing, May 28th
Adam Benjamin Totusek (born 1993)
Totusek was found guilty of breaching a release order on May 15th, 2026, in Moberly Lake.
They were jailed for one day.
Totusek was also found guilty of assault with a weapon on January 26th, 2026, in Chetwynd.
They were handed a conditional sentence, which is a sentence to be served outside of jail under strict conditions, sometimes called ‘house arrest,’ for three months, a primary DNA order was made and they were ordered to report for sample collection.
Totusek was also handed a firearms prohibition for one year.
