FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The 2276 Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps celebrated its 80th anniversary this weekend with a traditional knock and formal troop inspection.

According to a post on the city’s mayor Lilia Hansen’s Facebook page on June 1st, the council joined in the celebrations of this “remarkable milestone” and the reaffirmation of the Freedom of the City, which Hansen said is the highest honour a municipality can bestow.

In her post, Hansen said: “Council and I were honoured to take part in this historic ceremony. From the traditional knock at City Hall by Major Dan Davies to the formal inspection of the troop, the event was filled with pride, tradition and deep respect.”

The 2276 corps has shaped young leaders in Fort St. John for eight decades, building confidence, character, discipline and a commitment to serving something greater than themselves, the post reads.

Hansen thanked the cadets, both past and present, officers, volunteers and families who support the program.

She said their dedication strengthens the city and inspires the next generation.
