West Moberly First Nations look for Orange Shirt Day designs from community members
Orange Shirt Day, otherwise known as the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation, recognizes and remembers the atrocities suffered by Indigenous Peoples in Canada’s residential school system.

MOBERLY LAKE, B.C. — West Moberly First Nations’ (WMFN) cultural department is hoping for some suggestions from its members in designing shirts for the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation.
Also known as “Orange Shirt Day,” September 30th marks the observance and remembrance of the atrocities suffered by Indigenous Peoples in Canada’s residential school system.
According to a Facebook post by WMFN, the cultural department is seeking feedback on a tentative shirt featuring the community’s swan logo in front of a red handprint, the symbol for Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG).
The department is looking for feedback, along with ideas or artwork inspirations, words, symbols, or teachings which are meaningful to membership, and what Orange Shirt Day means to you. Orange Shirt Day was first recognized by the federal government in 2021 as a national statutory holiday.
The feedback process is open only to WMFN members. To contribute, email one of the following nation family representatives: Alexander Clayton at dokkierep@westmo.org, Ashley Miller at millerrep@westmo.org and Rayleen Robertson at brownrep@westmo.org.
The deadline to submit entries is Tuesday, June 30th. Energeticcity.ca has reached out to WMFN’s cultural department for further information.
