FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Pet lovers will have the chance to support a northern B.C. based rescue on May 21st, thanks to the ‘Pints for Pets’ fundraiser.

According to a May 19th Facebook post by Beards Brewing Company, it will be raising funds for On Our Way Home Animal Rescue Society, a foster-based rescue serving multiple communities, including Dawson Creek, Chetwynd and Fort St. John.

The fundraiser will be held at Beards Brewing Company on May 21st, from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m., at 10408 Alaska Road North, according to the event page.

Valerie Coe, co-owner of Beards Brewing Company, explained the reasoning behind the fundraiser.

“I’ve been a foster and part of the On Our Way Home Animal Rescue, doing fundraising, we did bottle drivers, we’ve done quite a few things,” she said. “I’ve been a foster and a foster fail since 2015, so I was reading some of the chat through the fosters group, and they were talking about how they’ve had quite a few sick animals and quite a few vet bills.”

Coe said that after hearing about this, she decided on Pints for Pets to raise awareness of the rescue’s needs and support a good cause.

According to Coe, people should support the fundraiser to help cover the costs of running a rescue.

“Most people care about animals, and the fundraiser is to support the rescue that supports the animals,” she said. “It’ll help with vet bills and spay and neuter costs, help with operating costs for all the sick animals and everything that comes with it. It’s important to me because I love animals.”

During the event, one dollar from every pint sold will be donated to On Our Way Home Animal Rescue Society.

A taco bar will start at 5 p.m. for $25 per plate. All the funds from every plate purchased will go to the society.

The society will also be hosting a 50/50 raffle until June 30th.

Tickets for the raffle can be purchased online.

“I’d like to see them [On Our Way Home Animal Rescue] get close to selling all the raffle tickets,” she said. “Because it’s only the day, I would suspect we probably get a couple hundred bucks for their rescue tomorrow.”

Donations can be made to the rescue through email transfer, cash or cheque. For more information, visit the rescue’s website.
