School District 60 announces new superintendent

School District 60 has announced that it has hired a new superintendent effective July 1st, 2026.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — School District (SD60) has hired a new superintendent. 

According to a press release from SD60 on May 4th, assistant superintendent Wade Hart has been hired as the new superintendent, effective July 1st, 2026. 

This comes after the current SD60 superintendent, Stephen Petrucci, announced his retirement this summer.

Hart, who is originally from Nova Scotia, has 29 years of experience in SD60 schools, having taught math, science and physical education, the press release said. 

After this, Hart served as vice-principal at North Peace Secondary School and as principal at Bert Bowes Middle School. 

Hart served as director of instruction for 6 years before becoming assistant superintendent last year.

“The Board of Education is pleased to welcome Mr. Hart to his new role,” said SD60 Board chair Helen Gilbert. 

“Given his extensive background in school and district leadership, coupled with his dedicated stewardship of human resources, we are entirely confident in his ability to serve the evolving needs of our students and staff.”
