WEST KELOWNA, B.C. — Five former members of the Northeast BC Predators girls’ hockey program are riding high after a hockey tournament in the Okanagan.

Paige Brown, Bailey Green, Camryn Ollenberger, Kayce Tanner and Jerzi Westgate were on the roster for the North Peace Eagles, who ended up third in the 20-team Crazy Canucks women’s hockey tournament in West Kelowna from April 10th to April 12th.

A Facebook post from the Predators said its alumni “are still out there representing our community and hockey club with pride.”

Westgate, who played defence, said the team’s chemistry evolved from the first game to the final whistle on Sunday, April 12th.

“Anyone who plays four games back-to-back together is bound to be a little more in sync on the fourth game,” said Westgate. “That first game back was just everyone getting in stride again and figuring out what they had to do.”

The five women skated alongside teammates from Kelowna, through a contact in the city, getting a final roster of 10 players. Serving as the goaltender, Green described her participation as “a last-minute thing.”

However, she told Energeticcity.ca she and her teammates were not worried about the lack of bench depth.

“It was nice having people on the team that you know you can trust as a goalie,” said Green. “Especially [when you are] relying on defencemen and knowing that they know what to do is pretty important.”

“It definitely help[ed] most of the girls we had [had played] defenceman for me, and then we had a couple of our goal scorers playing [as well].”

After the journey to Kelowna, the team started off with a tough 5-3 loss to a team based in Kelowna.

“I feel like we should have won that one,” said Green. “[The game] was at 10:30 at night. Everyone was pretty tired from travelling. We were doing really well, we just couldn’t quite get the goals.”

It would be the only loss on the weekend, as the Eagles won by scores of 5-4 and 5-3 on April 11th and 11-1 on April 12th to capture third place.

According to its Facebook page, the North Peace Eagles have roots in the Peace region dating back to 1974.

They have won three Provincial championships in their history. The Crazy Canucks 2026 Women’s Hockey Tournament took place from April 10th to 12th in West Kelowna, B.C.
