Earthquake of magnitude 4.4 recorded northwest of Fort St. John

A 4.4 magnitude earthquake was recorded at 1.42 p.m. on April 9th, 88 kms northwest of Fort St. John, according to Volcano Discovery.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — An earthquake of a magnitude of more than four was recorded this afternoon northwest of the city. 

According to Volcano Discovery, a magnitude 4.4 earthquake was recorded 88 km northwest of Fort St. John on April 9th at 1.42 p.m. 

It said the earthquake happened at a depth of 10 km, but noted it was automatically detected and therefore is “unconfirmed.”

This comes after a 3.4 magnitude earthquake was reported 12 kilometres from Taylor on December 18th, 2025.
