FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — A Peace region boxing promotion returns to Fort St. John for another springtime fight night.

Fivestar Fight League will host its 29th card on Saturday, April 18th, at Fort St. John’s Pomeroy Hotel and Conference Centre.

Promoter Justin Donally is heading back to the venue after last year’s card at the New Frontier Bar and Grill.

Donally told Energeticcity.ca while he aims to eventually have two cards per year, with one possibly at the New Frontier, the venue change is due to the Pomeroy being more family-friendly.

“We will probably go back to the Frontier again,” said Donally. “The problem with the Frontier is kids can’t come. A lot of the kids that fight, they can’t have their siblings there [for support].

“[Last year], we were just looking to mix it up a little bit.”

Fivestar Fight League began in 2012 as a way to promote local boxing talent, and Donally says the sport has grown in the region as the years have gone by.

“It was to feature our local athletes closer to home,” said Donally. “We have continued to build this up over the years. Now we’ve got more gyms in Grande Prairie, in Dawson [Creek], Chetwynd, Prince George [and] Fort Nelson. The entire Peace region is getting a lot more boxing now.”

The 12-fight card will feature eight Fort St. John-based boxers, including Mason Tetreault, who will main event versus Quesnel’s Dan Mott in a light middleweight bout at 155 pounds.

It will also feature Max Kraeleman, Marshall Krafczyk, Ward Clarke, Cameron Swanson, Jace Peterson, Emmett Trahan and Axell Lays in other action.

Kraeleman, Krafczyk and Tetreault all were slated to compete at the Western Canadian Boxing Championships earlier this year, although Donally said Tetreault pulled out of that event due to illness.

Tickets for the April 18th card are $80 for general admission or $50 with a student discount. VIP table prices – priced at $500 for four seats, $1,000 for eight seats and $1,250 for a table of 10 – are also available.

Tickets can be purchased at the Fivestar gym at 12246 Pacific Avenue in nearby Grand Haven, at Crooked Corner Clothing at 10107 100th Street in Fort St. John or online.

Fivestar Fight League 29 takes place on Saturday, April 18th with the doors opening at 5 p.m., the prelims beginning at 6 p.m. and the main event starting at 7 p.m.
