Northern Health is warning residents in Fort St. John of two potential measles exposures on March 17th.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Northern Health is warning residents in Fort St. John of two potential measles exposures in the city.
In a Facebook post on April 1st, 2026, Northern Health told residents of Fort St. John of two potential measles exposures which occurred on March 17th.
The first potential exposure was reported at the McDonald’s on 10920 Alaska Highway between 1 p.m. and 3:45 p.m.

The second reported potential exposure occurred at the Home2 Suites by Hilton hotel on 9519 111st Street. It does not list a time for this second exposure.
Measles is a contagious virus that predominantly spreads through the air, and can be dangerous for vulnerable people, with some having to be hospitalized. Symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose, and red and inflamed eyes.
A rash can also appear, and it starts on the face and neck before spreading to the rest of the body. In most cases, the rash will last somewhere between four to seven days.
Symptoms can start to be seen seven to 21 days after a person is initially infected.

There have been hundreds of cases of measles in northeast B.C. since the start of the outbreak in 2025.
Residents who believe they have been exposed to measles should monitor for symptoms. Anyone who believes they have measles should contact their care provider.
