FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Below are the latest sentences handed down from the Fort St. John and Dawson Creek provincial courts between March 16th and 20th. 

Fort St. John Provincial Court sentencing, March 16th

Bryton Bradley Jahn (born 2003)

Jahn was found guilty of assault on February 23rd, 2025 in Kamloops. 

They were handed a conditional discharge, which means the record won’t show a conviction if Jahn meets the conditions the judge sets.

Jahn was also handed a probation order for 12 months and was ordered to pay a $100 victim surcharge, which goes towards helping the victims of a crime.

Benjamin Kelvin Neil (born 1995) 

Neil was found guilty of breaching a probation order on May 22nd, 2025 in Dawson Creek and two counts of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm on February 11th, 2026 in Fort St. John. 

They were handed a jail-time-served sentence, a probation order for 24 months and a firearms prohibition for 10 years, and were subject to forfeiture, which allows the government to seize property and assets ‘tainted’ by crime. 

A secondary DNA order was made and Neil was ordered to report for sample collection. 

Dawson Creek Provincial Court sentencing, March 16th

Travis Ricky Lee Wiebe (born 1991)

Wiebe was found guilty of driving a motor vehicle without due care and attention and not stopping for officers empowered to stop a vehicle on April 27th, 2024 in Chetwynd. 

They were fined $8,000, an order was made, which is a legally-binding decision made by a court of law, and they were handed a probation order of one year.

Dawson Creek Provincial Court sentencing, March 17th

Samuel Kenneth Embree (born 2005)

Embree was found guilty of two counts of breaching a probation order and assaulting a peace officer on July 22nd, 2025 in Pouce Coupe. 

They were handed a conditional sentence for 52 days and a probation order for six months. 

Fort St. John Provincial Court sentencing, March 18th

Stephen Barnes (born 1990) 

Barnes was found guilty of aggravated assault on August 24th in Fort St. John. 

They were sentenced to jail for 222 days, handed a probation order for 24 months and a firearms prohibition for 10 years. A primary DNA order was also made. 

Dawson Creek Provincial Court sentencing, March 18th

Candice Dawn Shearer (born 1986) 

Shearer was found guilty of the following: 

  1. Assault on February 10th, 2025 in Dawson Creek. 
  2. Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm on February 10th, 2025 in Dawson Creek.
  3. Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm on February 3rd, 2025 in Dawson Creek.
  4. Four counts of breaching a release order on June 19th, 2025 and November 26th, 2025 in Dawson Creek and Pouce Coupe. 
  5. Robbery on April 4th, 2025 in Dawson Creek. 

They were sentenced to jail time already served and a probation order of 12 months. Shearer was also handed a lifetime firearms prohibition and a primary DNA order was made. 

Fort St. John Provincial Court sentencing, March 19th

Kelly Donald Shular (born 1975) 

Shular was found guilty of breaching a release order on September 24th, 2025 in Fort St. John. 

They were sentenced to jail time already served. 

Brennan Stragier (born 1993) 

Reasonable grounds were satisfied for Stragier for an incident on February 8th, 2025 in Fort St. John. 

They were issued a zero-dollar recognizance after the allegation for a period of 12 months, where the accused is given conditions to follow.
