Hospice society hopes to raise $40K at upcoming gala

DAWSON CREEK, B.C. — A hospice society is hoping to raise $40,000 at its upcoming fundraising gala.
South Peace Hospice Palliative Care Society will be hosting its fundraising gala, ‘Lights, Camera, Auction,’ on April 25th at Co-op Mercer Hall from 5.30 p.m.
Fred Feddema, president of the South Peace Hospice Palliative Society, told Energeticcity.ca that the current version of the gala is now in its fourth year.

He said: “We’re hosting our annual fundraiser and auction, which we get great support from in the community for donations.”
The gala will have a live and silent auction and the society is also reaching out to businesses for support.
“As I said, in the past, they have done so very generously,” he added.
This year, the society hopes to raise $40,000, which will be used to operate the society.

“We provide hospital beds to those people that are with life-limiting diseases or in a palliative state,” he said. “And if they choose to do that at home, then we provide them a bed at no charge.”
In addition to this, the society provides comfort care bags and companion visits.
Feddema said: “We have volunteers that will go sit with the individual so the partner or the caregiver that’s been looking after the individual can go and do some things on their own and not have to worry about their loved ones.”
Live and silent auction items up for grabs include receiving flowers once a month for a year, desserts by Kosmic Krumb’s for a year, a handmade quilt and a $2,000 travel voucher.
The deadline to purchase tickets is April 10th and tickets cost $100 per ticket or $750 plus applicable taxes for a table of eight.
