Registration underway for fourth annual spring badminton tournament in Dawson Creek
The Dawson Creek Badminton Club’s Spring Tournament will move to the Kin Arena on April 18th and 19th, 2026, after playing its first three editions at Dawson Creek Secondary’s South Peace Campus.

DAWSON CREEK, B.C. — The Dawson Creek Badminton Club’s spring open will return in 2026, complete with a change in venue.
In its fourth year, the event will move from Dawson Creek Secondary School’s South Peace campus gymnasium to the new badminton floors at the Kin Arena in Dawson Creek.
The change in venue means an adjustment to the number of matches played simultaneously, according to Devon Aaroe, who will be the tournament master.

“Normally I can only [use] five courts [at Dawson Creek Secondary],” said Aaroe. “Now I have the ability to go up to eight courts. The adjustment is going to be that I can put more games on and I can run multiple draws at a time.”
The club itself has existed since the mid-1980s, and runs twice-a-week drop-in play lasting from October through to April. A membership to the club costs $70 for the season.
While the club is strictly for those over 18, Aaroe did mention some children are allowed if with a parent who is a member.
Aaroe told Energeticcity.ca the club currently has 60 full-time members, with as many as 300 individual drop-ins throughout the winter.

“We have regulars come out from Chetwynd,” said Aaroe. “We have people [who] come from Hudson’s Hope and Fort St. John. We have people from Grande Prairie come out. They will travel that way, two hours, for badminton.”
The event taking place on April 18th and 19th will feature two unique one-day events.
Saturday will feature traditional draws of men’s and women’s singles and doubles, along with mixed doubles, while Sunday will feature a best-of-five team format – called a tie – similar to other racquet sport team competitions such as the Davis Cup.
“It will be mixed, so there will be modified rules,” said Aaroe. “If it’s men versus women, women will start with extra points. It’s a blind draw. When they go into their tie, they will make the teams, then learn what the other team has, and then they will play.”
Unique in its structure, registration for the tournament will vary depending on the number of events a participant wants to enter: $65 for one event, an additional $45 for a second event and $20 for a third and fourth event.
The Dawson Creek Badminton Club’s Spring tournament will take place at the Kin Arena located at 1101 106 Avenue in Dawson Creek on Saturday, April 18th and Sunday, April 19th, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.
The deadline to register is Saturday, April 11th at midnight. Registration is available through the form on the event’s entry page.
