Gas prices set to decrease for FortisBC customers

FORT NELSON, B.C.  —  Gas prices for FortisBC customers across the province will be decreasing next month.

The company says it has received approval from the British Columbia Utilities Commission (BCUC) to decrease the cost of gas for its customers starting April 1st, 2026.

The rate is expected to drop from $2.23 to $1.66 per gigajoule (GJ) on April 1st. 

With these decreases, the average customer will see their bills lower by $4.15 each month, depending on their consumption. 

The decrease is largely due to the warmer-than-usual weather in the Pacific Northwest region.

Customers who are subscribed to the voluntary-designed renewable natural gas (RNG) program will also see their rates decrease from $9.23 to $8.66 per GJ.

FortisBC’s vice president of energy supply and resource development Joe Mazza says the price adjustment will benefit customers. 

“This decrease in gas rates helps ease costs for customers,” said Mazza. “We remain focused on supporting them with practical tools and energy‑efficiency programs that make it easier to manage energy use and costs throughout the year.”

The BCUC is tasked with reviewing FortisBC’s cost of gas, as well as its RNG rates every three months. The next review will be in June 2026.

FortisBC covers much of British Columbia, including Fort Nelson, Hudson’s Hope, Mackenzie and Prince George.
