Ted Sloan, president of Stage North, says the organization brings together people from all different aspects of life.
“It’s neat to have your theatrical community,” said Sloan. “We have in our society right now, we’ve got young, we have old, we’ve got people who are in the trades, we have people who are teachers. It’s a really neat way to bring people together who may have never met each other outside of the society,”
Budgets for successful pitches range from $1,000 to $15,000 depending on the category:
- One Big Musical, which has a budget between $10,000 and $15,000. One Big Musical includes a cast of between 20-40 people.

- One Community Show, with a budget of $5,000 to $10,000 for a cast of five people.
- One Small Show, with a budget between $1,000 to $3,000 for a cast of one to five people.
The North Peace Cultural Centre will hold both the One Big Musical and One Community Show, while the One Small Show will be performed at a smaller, undecided venue.
Sloan says the board is looking to hopefully see more variety in the upcoming season.
“Our seasons have been very musical heavy lately, so we had two musicals this year, and I know that we heard some feedback going, ‘really love musicals, could we try a play or two?’ So as a board, we do enjoy giant musicals…but we are also looking forward to having some plays.”
Those who wish to apply should email execdir@stagenorth.ca, with a quick breakdown of the show they wish to pitch and a bit about themselves.
Applicants will then receive a submission spreadsheet where they can include general details, including the time frame they would like to produce the show and an example of a budget.
Pitch meetings will be held as an opportunity to discuss shows with the Stage North board.
Everyone will be contacted regardless of whether or not their pitch has been approved.
The current season of Stage North runs until May.
