Warming centre opens in Dawson Creek amid cold weather
The warming centre is open in Dawson Creek 24 hours a day until February 27th, and is intended to provide support for people in need during the winter.

DAWSON CREEK, B.C. — A warming centre has been opened in Dawson Creek to support residents during the ongoing cold weather.
In a Facebook post on February 16th, the City of Dawson Creek announced the centre is now open at the Nawican Emergency Homeless Shelter at 1401 102nd Avenue.Â
According to the city, the space is being operated by the Nawican Friendship Centre with funding support from the Ministry of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness (EMCR).
The warming centre will be open 24 hours a day from February 16th through February 27th. Refreshments will be available on-site.
The city says the temporary space is intended to provide support for people in need during the colder months.
According to Environment Canada’s forecast, temperatures in Dawson Creek are expected to be -15 C or less for the next week.
The South Peace is also currently in the midst of a yellow-level winter storm warning, with total snowfall amounts of 15 to 25 cm expected by midday today, February 17th.Â
