A radiothon is a live fundraising event hosted on the radio. According to Moose Media, the event’s fundraising goal is $45,000.

Throughout the day, Moose FM will encourage listeners to donate in support of Skye’s Place, a program operated by the FSJWRS that provides affordable housing, along with essential supports, for women and children leaving situations of violence.

Moose FM program director Chris Walker said the cause is one that deeply resonates with the station and its listeners.

“This radiothon is incredibly close to our hearts. The FSJWRS and Skye’s Place are there for women and children on what are often the hardest days of their lives, offering safety, dignity and hope when it’s needed most,” Walker said.

“As a local radio station, we have a responsibility to stand with our community, and this is one of the most meaningful ways we can do that.

“When our listeners come together for this radiothon, they’re not just donating money, they’re helping create a safer future and reminding people in crisis that they are not alone.”

While monetary donations are the primary focus, organizers are also accepting other essential items.

Most-needed items include non-perishable foods such as cereal, oatmeal, rice, pasta, canned meats, soups and stews, as well as hygiene and household essentials like shampoo, feminine hygiene products, senior diapers, dishwasher pods and laundry soap.

Only wipes, diapers, pull-ups and formula are being accepted for baby items at this time.

Clothing donations are limited to winter clothing and must be dropped off at the society’s Outreach Store.

Furniture, used toys, medications, books, decorations and items intended for children under five cannot be accepted due to storage and safety concerns.

Those wishing to donate can do so in person at Festival Plaza during the live broadcast, by e-transfer to fundraising@fsjwrs.ca or online through the event’s donation page.

Donors who give more than $50 in person at Festival Plaza will be entered into a draw for a $100 Skip the Dishes gift card.
100.1 Moose FM is owned by Moose Media, which is also the parent company of Energeticcity.ca.
