Under the weather authority’s colour-coded alert system, yellow alerts indicate hazardous weather that may cause damage, disruptions or health impacts. These alerts are typically moderate, localized, short-term and are the most common.

Environment Canada’s forecast for Dawson Creek indicates freezing rain mixed with snow is expected to begin around 6 a.m., while in the North Peace’s Fort St. John, similar conditions are projected to start around 7 a.m.

Argo Road Maintenance says crews will be actively patrolling roadways and applying salt to improve conditions on slippery surfaces.

Drivers are advised that salt-spreading trucks travel at approximately 30 kilometres per hour while applying material, and drivers should expect to encounter slow-moving maintenance equipment on area roads.

Despite the increased patrols, Argo noted rapidly changing weather conditions may lead to localized slippery areas before crews are able to treat all routes.

Drivers are being urged to slow down and adjust their driving to road conditions, exercise extra caution during the morning commute and watch for maintenance vehicles, allowing them plenty of space to operate safely.

Argo Road Maintenance thanked motorists for their patience and cooperation as crews work to maintain safe travel conditions during the weather event.
