FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The Fort St. John Senior Flyers lost to their rivals, the Dawson Creek Canucks, in a clash at the North Peace Arena.

Despite carrying the bulk of the play throughout, allowing two first-period goals was the Flyers’ downfall, and they lost by a score of 7-4 in North Peace Hockey League (NPHL) action on Thursday, January 22nd.

The Canucks opened the scoring on the power play in the first on Evan Weaver’s third goal of the year and led 2-0 after 20 minutes while outshooting the home team 16-8.

Dawson Creek went up 3-0 in the second before the Flyers’ Adam Horst scored his fourth goal of the NPHL season.

In doing so, Horst tied the club record for most career goals, an honour he shares with former Flyer Ian Munro, according to Chris Clegg of the NPHL Fan Zone Facebook page.

Munro played with the club for eight seasons from 2004 to 2012.

Alex Hanson made the score 5-1 for Dawson Creek early in the third before Fort St. John staged a comeback.

Goals from Cole Calliou, Nolan Lagace and Dawson Phillips cut the lead to 5-4, before empty net goals from the Canucks’ Matt Schmermund and Chase Henrickson put the game out of reach.

The defeat drops Fort St. John to a record of 4-9, as they remain in eighth spot in the nine-team NPHL.

Fort St. John will try to climb back in the win column in a game against the Falher Pirates on Friday night, January 23rd at the Falher Regional Recreation Complex.

Game time is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. More information is available on the Flyers’ Facebook page.
