Propane tanker truck fire blocks Highway 97 north of Fort Nelson

A section of Highway 97 between Tofte Mainline and Recreation Road, 82km north of Fort Nelson, is closed in both directions on January 20th due to a propane tanker truck fire.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Delays can be expected on a section of Highway 97 this morning, which is currently blocked by a propane tanker truck on fire.

According to DriveBC, a section of the Alaska Highway between Tofte Mainline and Recreation Road, 82km north of Fort Nelson, was closed in both directions due to a “vehicle incident” on the morning of January 20th.

Corporal Madonna Saunderson, RCMP North District communications officer, confirmed to Energeticcity.ca officers were called at just before 4:45 a.m.

She said the “truck is on fire and the highway is completely blocked.”

The closure is in effect near the 540 km mark, just west of the Steamboat brake check, about an hour north of Fort Nelson. No detour is available at this time.
