One pleads guilty in Fort St. John manslaughter case

Katlin Cota entered a guilty plea to manslaughter on December 1st, 2025 after a person died in Fort St. John in June that year.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — One of the three people charged in connection with a fatal incident in Fort St. John has pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

Katlin Darcy Cota, born in 1988, along with two other individuals, were arrested following the death of a person in the parking lot of the Fort St. John Alliance Church on June 24th, 2025.

According to the BC Prosecution Service, Cota entered a guilty plea on December 1st, 2025, to a single count of manslaughter.

The court ordered a presentence report with a psychiatric component, and Cota’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for February 20th, 2026.

Previously, Cota had elected to be tried by a Supreme Court judge sitting without a jury.

The charges against the other two arrested after the incident are not proven and their cases are still proceeding through the courts.
