Mayor Lilia Hansen expressed gratitude to Pacific Canbriam for the sponsorship, remarking on the impact it will have on residents and the community.

“By making public ice skating free and accessible, they are creating opportunities for families and neighbours to enjoy recreation together,” Hansen said.

“This initiative supports active living and strengthens our sense of community, making Fort St. John a wonderful place to call home.”

Sarah Rutherford, a community relations representative at Pacific Canbriam Energy, explained in the press release that promoting active living and investing into communities was “fundamental” to the company.

“We’re thrilled to partner with the city to help people of all ages get outside, enjoy recreation together and create the moments that bring communities closer,” Rutherford wrote.

The sponsorship was approved by the City of Fort St. John council during the December 8th regular council meeting and announced in a December 10th press release.

The company will also be holding a celebration on the ice on December 27th from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. with hot beverages and cookies available for attendees.
