Judith McPherson is doing her bit by organizing a bake sale on December 6th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Poppy and Co.

When asked how she got involved, McPherson told Energeticcity.ca: “Everybody knows the captain of the fire department.

“So I put up a Facebook post and I’ll help organise it, then it just blew up.”

Asked about why she chose a bake sale to raise funds, McPherson said: “With it being so close to Christmas, we figured, why not make baked goods?

“Everybody loves cookies, date squares and butter tarts.

“We have it there, and you can take them and keep them for Christmas.”

With the fundraising event tomorrow, McPherson hopes to raise over $5,000 for the Gower family.

Over 22 local bakers have volunteered their time and baked goods for this event.

McPherson praised those who volunteered to help from “just one little Facebook post.”

For every $5 spent at the bake sale, the community can choose a raffle ticket with the opportunity to win prizes from over 30 businesses.

The message that McPherson has for Captain Gower and his family is: “We just wish him well, wish him the speediest recovery, and to let him know that this entire community is behind him, his wife and his kids.”
