Public question period coming to City Hall
The City of Fort St. John council has voted to bring public question periods to regular council meetings.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Council has given preliminary approval to a bylaw amendment that would allow for questions from the public.
During the November 24th meeting, the City of Fort St. John council approved a change to its council procedures bylaw to allow members of the public to ask questions about the meeting.
The change was proposed by Councillor Trevor Bolin in an August council meeting, with staff presenting options to the council on November 10th.
Following the final approval of the amendment, residents attending council meetings will have an opportunity to ask questions during the “questions from the media and public” near the end of the meeting.
The amendment also retitles the section “reports from mayor and council on meetings and liaison responsibilities” to “reports by mayor and council,” and moves it to the end of the council proceedings.
Now the amendment has been approved by council and given its first three readings, it is expected to be presented for adoption at the December 8th council meeting.
Once final approval is granted, every council agenda moving forward will reflect the change, and residents will be able to attend and ask questions relevant to the meeting.
