(UPDATE) Chetwynd General Hospital emergency room reopens

The Chetwynd General Hospital emergency room was due to remain closed until 8 a.m. on November 9th – but it reopened earlier than expected, on November 8th.

Update, November 8th, 4.20 p.m.: The story was updated because the closure was cancelled.

CHETWYND, B.C. — The emergency room in Chetwynd was closed, but has now reopened. 

Northern Health posted an update on Facebook today (November 8th) at 11:50 a.m. to alert residents that the Chetwynd General Hospital emergency room was shut and was not expected to reopen until 8 a.m. on Sunday, November 9th.

However, Northern Health then updated the post to say the ER had reopened.

“Coverage has been found and this service interruption is now cancelled,” the post now reads. “Emergency services have resumed.”

This comes after Northern Health emergency wards in northeast B.C. closed for a total of four times throughout October, and 650-plus hours in 2025.

Earlier this week, on November 6th, the emergency room in Dawson Creek was shut for 10 hours.
