DAWSON CREEK, B.C. — A local food bank is extending its annual Christmas donation drive for longer than usual in the hopes of accruing more donations.
St. Mark’s Food Bank, a non-profit organization providing Dawson Creek-area families in need with food, is hosting its annual ‘Stock our Sleigh’ community food drive from November 9th to 14th.
According to Dena Batt, the food bank’s administrator, this year will be the first time the food drive has ever run for a full week.

“We usually run this around the same time as [the Rotary Club of Dawson Creek’s] Christmas Tree Light-Up, but we’re trying something different and we’re hoping to reach more people and gain more food if we try running it for a whole week this time,” Batt said.
During the event, food donations will be accepted at the Dawson Creek Safeway, No Frills, Save-On-Foods and Co-op during regular business hours.
In addition to various non-perishable food items like canned goods and pasta, Batt said the food bank is currently in need of some perishable items like milk, hygiene products like dish soap and laundry detergent and baby products like diapers.
A more thorough breakdown of items the food bank needs can be found on its Facebook page.
