FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Local cadets are once again stepping up to support veterans through the annual Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Campaign.
The campaign launched in Fort St. John on Friday, October 31st and will continue through to Remembrance Day, November 11th, with members of the 2276 Fort St. John Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps volunteering their time to help distribute poppies and collect donations.
Major Dan Davies, former Peace River North MLA and commanding officer of the local cadet corps, said the campaign is an important tradition that helps young people connect with the meaning of remembrance.

“Our cadets are honoured to stand alongside the legion each year in support of the Poppy Campaign,” said Davies.Â
“It’s important that young people understand the sacrifices made by those who served and continue to serve. Supporting this campaign is a meaningful way to show gratitude to the veterans who built, protected and continue to uphold the freedoms we enjoy today.”
According to Davies, funds raised through the campaign directly support veterans and their families in the Peace region, with all proceeds staying local.Â
While poppies are freely given, donations are encouraged to help provide essential services, programs and care for those who have served.
