FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for the B.C. Peace River region, including Fort St. John and Dawson Creek, with 10 to 15 centimetres of snow expected Sunday.

The agency says a narrow, slow-moving band of precipitation is sitting along Highways 49 and 97.

The snow may briefly change to a rain and snow mix this afternoon before returning to light snow into the evening. Accumulation amounts could vary depending on when that transition occurs.

Snow is expected to ease on Sunday evening.

Argo Road Maintenance says they have been out in the South Peace plowing, salting and sanding where needed since early Sunday. Most highways remain bare and wet.

Drivers are advised to adjust to changing road conditions and be prepared for reduced visibility. Motorists should turn on their headlights and maintain a safe following distance when conditions deteriorate.
