Fort St. John RCMP honour women officers on National Police Woman Day
In celebration of National Police Woman Day on September 12th, the Fort St. John RCMP has acknowledged and thanked its female officers.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Today is National Police Woman Day, and 2025 also marks the 50th anniversary of women serving in the RCMP.
The RCMP began accepting applications from women in May 1974, with the first female officers graduating from its training academy in Saskatchewan on March 3rd, 1975.
According to the RCMP, about one-fifth of its police officers are women today.

To mark the occasion, the Fort St. John RCMP has acknowledged and thanked several of its female officers for their service:
- Constable Caitlyn Rissanen, Indigenous policing service unit: 16 years in law enforcement, with 11 as part of the RCMP.
- Corporal Niki Campbell, intimate partner violence unit: 12 years of service in the RCMP and author of the children’s book Goodnight British Columbia.
- Sergeant Jaime Moffat, detachment commander: Has worked in Chilliwack, Kelowna, Dease Lake, Tumbler Ridge, Nakusp and Dawson Creek before arriving in Fort St. John as the acting officer in charge.
- Constable Giselle Kopf, frontline policing: A new member committed to advancing diversity and inclusion in the RCMP.
- Constable Kaylee Radford, serious crimes unit: Newest member of the Fort St. John detachment, recently transferred from Fort Nelson.
- Constable Michaela Turple, serious crimes unit: 14 years as part of the RCMP. Served in Manitoba before moving to B.C. and Fort St. John.
“National police women’s day is a wonderful chance to recognize the contributions of women in policing and to also acknowledge the incredible work of the women in our detachment,” said Moffat, detachment commander of the Fort St. John RCMP.
“I am proud to be part of such a dedicated team here in Fort St. John.”
