Fort St. John seeks new youth pool commissioner
Applications for Fort St. John’s new youth pool commissioner on the North Peace Leisure Pool Commission are being accepted until September 12th.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The City of Fort St. John is inviting local youth to apply for a new position on the North Peace Leisure Pool Commission.
The Pool Commission, which includes members of PRRD Electoral Areas B and C as well as Fort St. John City Council, sets policies, procedures and goals for the facility and meets every two months.
The city announced in a Facebook post on Tuesday it is now accepting applications for a youth pool commissioner for the group, a role the city said was designed to ensure young voices are represented in decisions about pool programming, facility improvements, youth events and safety initiatives.

“If you’re passionate about recreation, wellness, leadership or civic engagement, this is a great opportunity to make a meaningful impact,” the city said in its announcement.
The position is open to students aged 13 to 18 who attend school within School District 60.
Successful applicants will serve a one-year term from October 2025 to August 2026, aligning with the school year.
According to the city, the youth commissioner will be a non-voting member of the commission, but they will participate in commission meetings, provide quarterly youth reports and attend monthly mentorship sessions with city staff.

The commissioner will also receive a complimentary annual pool pass.
Applications are open until September 12th. Interested youth are asked to submit a personal statement and two references by email to pool@fortstjohn.ca.
This comes as the city looks to replace the North Peace Leisure Pool.
