CHETWYND, B.C. — Firefighters have worked quickly to suppress a 19-hectare fire which ignited south of Chetwynd this week.

On September 3rd, the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) discovered an incident in Bluff Creek, near Bluff Creek Road and to the west of Highway 29.

Although it was initially only 0.2 hectares, the blaze grew to burn 19 hectares over the course of a day, and the BCWS sent three ‘initial attack crews’ to fight the flames.

Now, the BCWS has updated its portal to say the Bluff Creek wildfire is no longer considered ‘out of control,’ and is ‘being held.’

This designation means the fire is “projected, based on fuel and weather conditions and resource availability, to remain within the current perimeter, control line or boundary.”

This comes as the BCWS’s Prince George Fire Centre implements a category one campfire ban across its jurisdiction.
