Carnival worker dies after being found unconscious near ride in Prince Rupert, B.C.

PRINCE RUPERT — A worker has died at a summer carnival in Prince Rupert, B.C., after being found unconscious near a ride.

Mounties say officers responded to a report of an injured man at the carnival at 10:40 p.m. Tuesday and he was later pronounced dead.

RCMP say officers are assisting in the investigation, which also involves WorkSafeBC and the BC Coroners Service.

Mission-based Shooting Star Amusements, which operates the carnival, says in a Facebook post that the man who died was not only a co-worker, but also a “dear close friend,” and a “great man.”

The city of Prince Rupert says on social media that it’s “deeply saddened” by the fatal incident, and it’s offering counsellors to anyone affected.

The company says the carnival will remain closed until at least Thursday and it will offer refunds for pre-purchased all-day ride passes.
