FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Only two blazes currently remain listed as ‘out of control’ in northeastern B.C. by the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS).

The latest update on the BCWS website shows a 239-hectare wildfire located at the junction of the Dunedin and Liard Rivers is now ‘being held,’ meaning it’s no longer expected to expand beyond its current perimeter.

That leaves just the Etcho Creek and Liard River wildfires as the only ‘out of control’ blazes in the entirety of the Prince George Fire Centre.

The Etcho Creek fire currently sits at 280,461 hectares in size, unchanged since August 1st. Meanwhile, the Liard River blaze has reportedly burned 3,467 hectares so far.

Both fires are believed to have initially begun during a prior wildfire season, smouldering underground throughout the winter before reigniting this year.

No evacuation alerts, evacuation orders or area restrictions are currently in effect as a result of either blaze.
