Manager of Dunne-Za Lodge Tamara Dokkie is a cousin of Napoleon and said the idea for the event “just came about” during a conversation.

“I was just telling him that I think it’d be really cool to do a session with him,” said Dokkie. “So he came up with it and decided to host it. [We] just thought it’d be a cool experience.”

Although Dokkie says the details for the menu will be finalized after meeting with Napoleon, she did offer some insight into Indigenous cuisine, including the variety of animals involved in cooking Indigenous food.

“The tail of a beaver if you fry it, it’s actually very good,” said Dokkie. “It’s an actual delicacy for First Nations people. Moose nose soup is actually something [that] whenever it’s made, Elders automatically, that’s their favourite [dish].”

Tickets are priced at $295 per person and Dokkie is hoping about 20 attendees take part in the event.

Savour the Flavour: Indigenous Cooking Lessons and Cultural Knowledge takes place at the Dunne-Za Lodge at WMFN on Thursday, August 14th starting at 10:30 a.m.
