(UPDATE) Phone service interrupted at Dawson Creek’s Nawican cooling centre

Nawican Bergeron Youth and Culture Centre posted to Facebook to describe its phone interruption as a “temporary technical issue.”

Update, July 31st, 4:23 p.m.: The Facebook post issued this morning has since been taken down. Energeticcity.ca has not received confirmation if phone services are restored or not.

DAWSON CREEK, B.C. — The Facebook post announcing phone services were interrupted at a Dawson Creek non-profit facility has been taken down.

A Facebook post on Thursday, July 31st previously said the Nawican Bergeron Youth and Culture Centre’s phone services were down for what was described as a “temporary technical issue.”

“We are actively working to resolve the problem and restore service as soon as possible,” read the post from the centre.

The centre was announced as an emergency cooling centre from July 30th until Friday, August 1st due to the warm weather experienced in northeast B.C. 

Energeticcity.ca has reached out to the centre for comment, and will update this story should more information become available.

A guy who found his calling later in life, Edward Hitchins is a professional storyteller with a colourful and extensive history.

Beginning his journey into journalism in 2012 at Seneca College, Edward also graduated from Humber College with an Advanced Diploma in Print and Broadcast Journalism in 2018.  After time off from his career and venturing into other vocations, he started his career proper in 2022 in Campbell River, B.C.

Edward was attracted to the position of Indigenous Voices reporter with Energeticcity as a challenge.  Having not been around First Nations for the majority of his life, he hopes to learn about their culture through meaningful conversations while properly telling their stories. 

In a way, he hopes this position will allow both himself and Energeticcity to grow as a collective unit as his career moves forward and evolves into the next step.

He looks forward to growing both as a reporter and as a human being while being posted in Fort St. John.
