‘I have been hacked’: Fort St. John councillor warns of Facebook profile using his name
Fort St. John councillor Tony Zabinsky warned residents not to accept friend requests from an account he believes is attempting to impersonate him.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — A Facebook profile is seeming to impersonate a Fort St. John councillor.
That’s according to Tony Zabinsky, who posted to Facebook on July 25th to warn residents not to accept friend requests from an account sharing his name which he believes is attempting to impersonate him.
There is no photo attached to the profile and it only has eight friends at the time of this writing.
“I have been hacked,” read Zabinksy’s post in all capital letters.
“Please do not respond to the invite.”
Although he does not believe his personal information has been stolen or exposed, Zabinsky is warning his friends and the community not to accept a friend request from the account.
“I don’t know why someone was targeting me, but there are unscrupulous people out there that do unscrupulous things,” Zabinsky told Energeticcity.ca.

The councillor is worried the account may be used to spread misinformation.
“Most people know me and know that’s not me,” said Zabinsky.
Zabinsky thanked the people who brought this matter to his attention.
“They reached out to me, stating, ‘I’m getting messages that there’s a fake profile out there,’ so you have got to love your people that you connect with that are bringing this to your attention.”
At this time, Zabinksy does not believe the police should be involved.
